Help please - Cannot start game

Hi All,

New guy here. So I purchased a download version of SH5 via Ubi's online shop and installed the TWOS as per instructions in one of the sticky threads. No problems there.

When I start the sh5.exe I see TWoS splash screen but shortly after the program terminates and starts uplay. Has anyone experienced this? Many thanks in advance!

The following mods are activated -

Generic Mod Enabler - v2.6.0.157
[C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5\MODS]

1. The Wolves of Steel 1.05
2. The Wolves of Steel 1.05 - Update No. 08
3. The Wolves of Steel 1.05 - Real Navigation_by TheDarkWraith

There is not a problem with TWOS so it is probably something that you have not done or not done correctly.
Did you update your game installation?
Post #5 Update SH5 From v1.0.5.0 To v1.2.0 Immediately After Installing
Did you follow all of the TWOS installation instructions?

Did you update the game? Every time I've downloaded it the version hasn't been correct. You may have to do it manually: Ubisoft > Silent Hunter 5 > Support > GameUpdater > gu.exe

This should've been done before applying the mod.

Had simular problems with new installs. Contacted UBI and they said win 10 does not support game, I changed the compatibility settings for the game to an earlier version of windows and all is good. Hope it helps.

that's not true i play silent hunter III, IV, V on win10 without any problem and without compatibility settings i run the game as administrator .......

I too play III and V in Win 10. No problems whatsoever, short of having to enable compatibility mode with XP SP2 (others may work as well - that's the first 1 I tried and it worked).

Hi All. Thanks for the pointers. Initially I tried to install SH5+TWOS on my Win10 virtual machine (Vmware Fusion) - I'm a macbook pro guy. The process was smooth but just couldn't get the modded game to start (even though the stock game wirked). I then decided to boot into Windows 7 (bootcamp) and install it from scratch - same process followed. Success! Now I can actually start that bootcamp win7 instance in the virtual machine (whilst I'm in OS X) and play SH5+TWOS. Interestingly enough the performance is great!
