Does the search function of this forums still work as it's supposed to do?
I was searching for info on my observation that the weather forecast in Wolves of Steel never seems to change (always zero wind, zero precipitation, zero fog, etc.). In earlier days one was able to get a managable amount of hits after a search attempt and you didn't have to browse a couple of thousand to get to the relevant ones. But nowadays when you do a search, you get a couple of thousand hits and it's up to you to pick out the relevant stuff amongst them. Moreover, there are a lot of hits that, as far as I can judge, have nothing to do with the searched subject. And yes, I also try narrowing it down and down again. Still there are some 10 or 20 pages of so called relevant hits. You might just as well browse the complete forum to get to the info that you want. Correct me if I'm wrong. And yes, I still haven't found what I'm looking for. You too? Saluut, Jan Groningen the Netherlands |

Hi Digger
The weather is not saved in SH5 so you could save a foggy game and load the game on the next gaming session and have clear blue sky's and vice a versa. In the game it is possible to go for a number of days with the same weather but at some point it will change. If you read the documentation that comes with the Dynamic Environment v2.9 mod it explains how it uses the weather. Geographical positioning and seasonal weather will cause certain types of weather too be more persistent than normal in those situations it can be better to move some distance away to try and avoid it if it is a problem. Personally I am quite happy with the TWOS weather even if at times it can be depressing, that's life Captain. Peter

Jan, Search will give you results based on key words. But what you type into Search won't always give you the results you want. As you've seem, you'll get a list of threads a mile long that you'll need to check to see if the results are for the simulation you're working on. And 99% of the time that key word for lets say SH3 will also give results for SH4 and SH5. It's just the nature of the beast.

OK thanks guys. I re-installed Dynamic Environment 2.9 and re-started the sim. And now the forecast is adequate!
I'm sorry I couldn't find this using the "search-function" and had to start this new thread. Eventually this forum might submerge in it's own sea of information. Oh well, is the subsim-forum after all ![]() Jan |
