Tehran releases footage of Iranian navy submarine allegedly aiming at a US aircraft carrier

Quote:
The footage (click here) shows the submarine or a warship (the image above seems to be taken from a certain height from above the sea level…) somehow aiming or at least pointing its sensors at the American warship. According to the reports from the Iranian media, a drone took part in the surveillance operation as well, taking pictures of the American flattop from above.

In another video, you can see an IRGC drone flying close to the carrier (click here).

It’s not clear if and when the “close encounter” really happened nor the name of the “targeted” U.S. vessel; currently the USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier is operating in the Persian Gulf supporting Operation Inherent Resolve against ISIS in Iraq and Syria.

The incident occurred just a few days after ten U.S. sailors were abducted by Iran, following a technical malfunction that caused them to enter Iranian national waters near an island in the Gulf.

Default Things that make you go 'hmmmmmm'

The video screen data is shown in English? I guess that's possible (and is probably more prevalent than hardware with arabic/farsi etc). The height of the 'periscope'?? gives the impression it is well out of the water. Hard to believe other TF ships/escorts didn't notice it. No other ships in sight either.

I suppose it could have happened but I'm betting not exactly as described.
Alternatively why would you tip your hand like this and put your 'enemy' on alert to future attempts.

All in all, weird.

Most likely just propaganda to keep the local population happy just like their "stealth plane"....

Here is a (crappy) picture that U 34 took of an American carrier back in 2007:

The periscope is much lower.

"filmed by a Ghadir".
I didn't know Ghadir had rotary wings. I suspect it was filmed when the carrier set sail out of bahrain.

He just popped over the sound layer and is about to frag our ass.
-How do you figured that ?
Start reaching for the pile of Subsim stuff.

The picture could equally well have been taken from a fishing boat or one of those handy Iranian speed-boats - with some fancy electronic adding of numbers, etc. The submarine might even have been surfaced. Or...? That said, the web text is a little comic (as they often are on this medium, on such subjects) - "The Iranian Navy has spied on a U.S. aircraft carrier in the Strait of Hormuz with drones and subs."

"Spied" - in an area some would say are Iranian waters more than not. I wonder, who is provoking who?

This one, too: "are on heightened alert status and almost no suspect (manned or unmanned) aircraft approaching the ship goes unnoticed."

Eeeek.....is that good enough........

But, not to worry, all is well with US and Iran for now.......He-he, Putin doesn't know it yet but now that Iran and US have become so friendly they can get a move on their plans to instigate problems in the, for a large part, Moslem-populated parts of the Southern Russian "Empire". Like in Ukraine. Interesting times.
