Default will GWX Gold work with Steam??

I need to reinstall the game - my own stupid fault, but neither of my two game disks is installing - though I can make a virtual copy of the game - but that won't launch either. Have tried getting rid of copy protection but it says there is none - and I never got as far as putting any numbers in anyway, so I am jiggered. It previously installed without any problems on the .64 bit machine, so I dunno what the problem is. Steam seems the way to go - but I thought I had read somewhere that GWX Gold will not run on Steam. GOTTA have GWX Gold...

I believe the copy protection has been removed already in subsequent releases of the game. the latest version of the game being the steam version.

I have been running the steam version because when i replaced my buggered up hard drive i had to reinstall but had recently moved and could not handily find my SHIII Disc.

The steam version runs with GWX just fine, i have also succeeded in using many other mods enabled through JSGME without any problems

thank you Blitzkreig, I did not know there was a guide for Steam, but all sorted now anyway - once I knew GWX would run on Steam, my course was clear and I am now back on the water albeit slightly poorer in the pocket - that will teach me to be more careful and not put the wrong mods in the wrong game again!

Sorry for this for those running SH3 with Steam. But the only redeeming value for Steam is that if you decide to uninstall SH3 you will always be able to reload it straight from Steam. No DVD needed at all for the reinstall. I've done that with Call of Duty Black Ops, Counter-Strike, and IL2 Cliffs of Dover.

At least with SH3 you are not stuck with a sim you can't mod like we do. Most of the others they have can only be modded by Download Content right from Steam only.

just be sure to change the install path on the GWX installer to the place where steam stores it's game instead of the ubisoft file. (program filesx86/steam/steamapps/common)
