I think it's been coming for a while, nothing too new about it other than it's an unmanned vehicle.
Wouldn't be surprised if the laser tech has been coming along in the meantime though, I know the Russians experimented with it, as well as wake detection systems. ![]() |

That's the way it works. It's all about advances and innovation. Huge amounts of money are spent on developing new technologies and It's usually easier and cheaper to develop a counter .

It is a bit like Sosus, only from "above" in a way.
They can certainly litter the seas which such craft, but then those probably could be hacked and used against their creators (still waiting for the first IS drones), they would need batteries and solar cells (or nuclear drive?), all much too prone to failure on the high seas i think. I take it a satellite surveillance using algorithms comparing normal/disturbed wave action combined with gravimetry will be the better solution.

Isn't it funny how we "Tell All" on our "so called" secret weapons.

![]() It's hard to believe that the program has been shut down. I wonder if it is just talking points? By the time we hear anything the new way to detect submarines has already been in development and approved or unapproved. I heard they were working on satellite detection of being able to see a thermal image of a submerged submarine. I suspect Iran has Sosus by now and we should be very careful of using their home waters for hiding in. Here's a good article on Sosus if anyone wants to brush up on their knowledge.
