Default Europa Universalis IV

Paradox recently released the ninth major expansion to EU IV. It's easily my favorite grand strategy title (almost 2500 hours) and I'm wondering if any members here play?

It's not the sort of game that everyone will like of course, but if you're in to these sorts of games it's a good one. The depth and complexity are exceptional, but for me it remains highly intuitive and accessible.

I was a long time Total War player, and while I still love those games, the campaign side of the game left me wanting more. Things like espionage, diplomacy, politics, economy and so on are fairly shallow, even if the tactical side is always good.

So a few years ago I was looking for something similar, but different. I bought Crusader Kings 2, and liked it. While I missed the tactical side, the rest was so much more in depth. Mechanics intricately interwoven. That led me to EU IV, and that was it. Now here was the game I've wanted all along. That was almost four years ago and the game has continually evolved. It keeps getting better.

If you like strategy games you should give it a look. A few screens:

A recent game as Hungary for the 'Take That von Habsburgs' achievement. I play ironman as I'm a bit of an achievement whore. Aragon is in a Personal Union with us. So the empire spans from the Atlantic to the Black Sea.

Here, Hungary invades Ottomans, because we can.

Prussia, formed after beginning the game as Brandenburg. We would go on to form Germany.

The glorious nation of Kawali, a custom nation for the 'From Humble origins' achievement

The Teutonic Order for the 'Baltic Crusader' achievement. Definitely one of my favorite nations and government forms to play

Holy Mother of Russia! Is that your game? You gotta tell me what's going on there. Please tell me it's not Lucky Nations at least.

Is that a mod, or how do you become the Holy Brittania Empire?

Aside from a few WCs I've followed I've not seen anything quite like it. The AE must have been insane! lol

It's a ported save from CK2, I formed Britannia, and renamed it the Holy Empire of Britannia then expanded into Europe and eventually the Americas, Africa and Australia. I got lucky quite early in CK2 when my son became the Emperor of Francia, so that helped me with the European conquest, the Abbasids were a sod for a while but then they eventually imploded and that left a nice vacuum for me to hoover up the holy land.
As it stands now there are a couple of major powers in the world but I have the most powerful economy and military, however there's a group in India which I can never remember the name of which are quite powerful and extensive, they had California for a while until I helped it break free, Russia is quite powerful but I periodically eat a bit of it to stop it getting too above its station, the Hallalids, though are an upcoming force, I've not been playing in the sand much so they've had a chance to expand and now they're heading into North-east Mexico and Texas.

I'll try and grab a few screenshots tomorrow to illustrate things more.

OK that makes sense. I've only played one ported save, as Aragon. It was the second EU IV run I started. Went well, because we already owned all of Iberia. But nowhere near as successful as your game. That's fantastic. Looks like the Russian occupation gobbled up most of you manpower though. What's that about wars in Russia in winter? I'm going for the 'Better Than Napoleon' achievement, and having a core on Moscow as France is one of the requirements, so my armies will be freezing to death on the steppe before too long as well.

What version are you on? I notice you have zero PP so this game was started a while ago?

Here is my latest run. I went for the Better Than Napoleon achievement, which requires France to have cores on Berlin, Vienna and Moscow. Quite an interesting game. We jumped to the Adriatic in a war with the Pope. That allowed us claims on Venice. From there it was up through the heart of Protestant Europe through Austria and Bohemia, then east through Poland and Lithuania along the old Prussian lands. Finally, wars with the Russian monster and Moscow was French.

Don't know why the pics are so big. They were resized before with links to see full sized version.

I've started a thread over at SimHQ detailing my latest run, this one for the Consulate of the Sea achievement. If interested, you can follow it here

Where'd ya go Oberon? I was looking forward to your posts. Anyway, the AAR posted previous link is complete and here are some of my other recent runs.

Ottomans for A Decent Reserve which requires hitting 1 million manpower. Was harder than I thought it would be. Russia would be better for this achievement.

Tunis for the Sons of Carthage achievement. Also got Even Better Than Piet Heyn for pirating at least 100 ducats from a single treasure fleet.

Burgundy for the The Burgundian Conquest achievement.

New patch yesterday with alot of fundamental changes,
