Default How many patrols?

Hey All!

This is my first time playing the SH3 campaign all the way through. I've just finished my 30th patrol and I'm in August of 42 (I started in 1939).
I assume I've probably got another 30 to go? My last 20 patrols or so I've been playing on 100% and after about 5 patrols I have to switch up to a different game for a while because it starts to feel like just that; a patrol, haha and anyone that wears boots here can sympathize.

I still love the game but another 30 patrols is quite a while, and I'm hoping the game doesn't lose some of its magic. Also I'd love to find something more than merchants! I keep getting radio reports of Task Forces but they're actually just merchant convoys. Sinking heavy warships would do a lot to spice the game up. There are only so many times you can sink merchants before it starts to seem repetitive

Default welcome aboard!

Sandback!Stay away from warships except as opportunity absolutely dictates. You are in a tonnage war! You get your reichsmarks for tedious elimination of the enemy's psychological will, supplies and merchant transports. You also get the best food and leave as the Eastern-front fare and weather are a horrific alternative by comparison.

The number is flexible. it depends on how long each patrol lasts.

It all depends on how and why you play the game. If you think of it as a game you're meant to beat, then yes, it can seem repetitive. If you have a fondness for the machines and the history then even a patrol with no enemy encounters at all can be entertaining. I've been playing subsims for around thirty years now, and I've had more than a few empty patrols.

Welcome to SubSim Sandback.

You're doing great. Most don't get that many patrols in. HW3 will remember this. We used to play B-17 Fly Fortress "The Mighty 8th" and run bombing missions over Germany. Well, we played for over 2 years running missions before the "war ended"... 247 missions if I recall correctly.

I do not have the exact number Gary, but I think it was more like around 120-130 missions the first time through with Jordi running the show. There is probably 247 targets available to pick from. The only v8th records I still have are from the last go around with Wolfman and you running the show. We gave it up in March 44 after 15 missions due to lack of participation.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome! I've been visiting subsim so long I figured it's probably time to become a member.

I do enjoy each and every patrol but I have to take breaks after every 5 patrols or so to keep the motivation up. i love the game and I love the mechanics, part of me however is excited to complete the campaign to move on to SH4.
