Multiple Installs NOT From Scratch?

So I've read some of the tutorial info on doing multiple installs, but I've come away a bit confused because neither the SH3FE or MultiSH3 threads seem to provide an answer if you already have an existing install that you don't want to mess with.

I have a non-DRMed, non-Steam copy of SH3 (purchased directly from UBI but doesn't appear to be for sale that way anymore) that I've previously installed with GWX3 and have gotten it well tweaked with a few dozen mods, but I've started to take an interest in both LSH5 and WAC4.1.

How can I go about doing a fresh parallel install while not screwing up what I already have installed? From what I gather, I should do the following:

1. Install MultiSH3 into the existing install and have it change the path (probably c:\SilentHunter3-GWX)
2. Do a fresh install into another directory
3. Install MultiSH3 into that new install and change it to whatever I intend to install there (LSH5 or WAC4.1) and then begin install of the mods I intend to use.
4. Install separate copies of JSGME and SH3C into the new directory?

Is this the way to do it or am I going to mess things up with my existing install?
