Default Soon we'll be shaving with the Glomar Explorer

http://www.pri.org/stories/2015-09-0...aded-scrapyard

The Hughes Glomar Explorer was more than just a giant ship — it was a giant secret, possibly the biggest and strangest covert operation the CIA pulled off during the Cold War. But now, 40 years after its original mission, it’s finally headed to the scrapyard.

Glomar Explorer at Suisun Ghost fleet near the USS Iowa. after she was prepared for dry docking at a cost of more than two million dollars, the ship became part of the Navy's Suisun Bay Reserve Fleet. <enlarges: Ships at Suisun Bay, California. NoteUSS Iowa (BB-61) on the bottom end of the second row from the bottom. http://scotthaefner.com/beyond/mothball-fleet-ghost-ships/

All I know is that my brother lost a "boat" load of money when Global Marine filed for bankruptcy.

Last I heard, the Sea Shadow was being sold with the Glomar Explorer as a package deal. It was being kept inside the GE. (That may be innacurate, just what I remember)

Sea Shadow was totally dismantled in 2012 by Bay Ship. It was actually housed in the HMB-1 hughes Mining barge also at Suisun a pity no museum would take it IMHO. the barge still exists at Bay Ship: "As of August 2013, HMB-1 was moored at the Bay Ship & Yacht Company facility on Main St. in Alameda, CA.In March 2015, the helipad was removed from atop the dry dock by Power Engineering, with help from a floating crane." I'll check that out when I revisit the USS Hornet CV-12 Musum ship at Alameda Naval Base Suitable for a major rendezvous IMHO. With the USS Pampanito and Jeremiah O'Brien Liberty ship just across the BAY! Oakland/Alameda is cheaper than S.F. accommodation wise.

May I recommend the following reading, and remember to buy through the subsim amazon store

http://www.amazon.co.uk/CIAs-Greates...vert+Operation

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Project-Azor...roject+Azorian

and this link for a declassified albeit redacted article from the NSA archive

http://nsarchive.gwu.edu/nukevault/ebb305/doc01.pdf

It is a fascinating story and I'm hoping to get the DVD that accompanies the Project Azorian book.
