Default DW, Linux, and Steam Question

Ahoy Gents,

Got a question of curiosity here. Wondering if anyone can weigh in.

I've read that DW can be made to run smoothly on Linux via Wine.

However, is the same possible with the steam version of Linux? Additionally, if it possible to install the steam version of DW in Wine, would it be possible to also mod it with something like LWAMI?

Cheers!

dw haven't any drm-protection and the steam-version isn't anything than a extracted archive. so no installation is needed.

i've just copy&paste the dw folder (v1.04 steam version with LWAMI) from my windows partition and executed the dangerouswaters.exe (the steamrun.exe launcher also works) with wine.

worked flawless without any graphic/audio-bugs on my xubuntu 15.04 / wine 1.6.2 (stable)

Apx, thank you for the advice!

I did exactly as you said. I copy/pasted my entire DW installation from my windows partition to my linux partition. I installed wine and did

wine dangerouswaters.exe

while inside the DW directory that I had copied to my linux install. However, I get the following message repeated several times when I try to run it with the above command:

err:winediagrandr12_init_modes Broken NVIDIA RandR detected, falling back to RandR 1.0. Please consider using the Nouveau driver instead.

Update***

So I moved it into the Program Files (x86) of wine and ran steamrun.exe from command line using wine. However, the screen flashes and blinks constantly and is unplayable.

Reading from the terminal it is repeating (while flickering)

fixme:d3d_texture:apply_wrap Unrecognized or unsupported texture address mode 0.

Okay, yet another update.

I installed the Linux version of steam and got it DL the windows version of DW, fresh install.

From that I am able to run it using wine. However, when the game launches it is in a small box in the upper left corner of the screen with the rest of the screen being black. I guess this is it's version of "full screen". I can't switch it to windows either because this machine is not 16 bit color depth.
