Icon9 A Suicide Mission Right Away - Uhg!

Okay, I'm just starting out and my first mission is to photograph the ships in Tokyo Bay. Ouch! Is there a tactic I can use or restart hoping for an easier assignment? It's no fun getting wet inside a sub.

You have the option if you think the mission is too dangerous to refuse it. Your main priority other than sinking ships is bringing your command back home in one piece.

BTW, Welcome to our little insane asylum. Happy to have you aboard.

Since your just starting out, I suggest you ignore the mission, go sink 60 to 100 thousand tons (refit as necessary), go back to port, end patrol.

I have done this mission, it is a very sticky situation. Not a lot of places to surface, recharge or save games.

PS: other threads talk about problems saving game submerged with too many contacts nearby. restarting from those saved games is sometimes very iffy.

welcome aboard, and happy hunting.

In real life there were only a handful of photo-recon missions assigned to submarines, and every single one of them was to photograph an island the US was thinking of invading. No one was ever asked to go into the enemy's main naval base. Places like Tokyo are very lightly protected in the game, when compared to what they were really like.

As everyone else said, just ignore the mission.

I would ignore the mission,I have done the mission a few times depending on what mod you are running there are a few juicy targets in there as I recall depending what year your going in and getting in is easy getting out is not when the fireing starts.

Exactly. Everyone knows the mission into Tokyo Bay was really for meteorological data for the air raid.

Of course, you can only do that in game if you have the proper appendectomy mod installed.

Thanks for the many replies and help. I think I will start over with a new skipper and hope for a more sane mission. If I get one that I feel will endanger my crew, I will opt for a search and kill mission of my own design. I will probably face a courts-martial. But at least my efforts will hasten the end of the war unless the government uses some kind of a super weapon to defeat the enemy (science fiction ).

Thanks again for the warm welcome and information.

If you ever decide to do it, it is fun. Puddle jumping is the way to do it. You need to surface a couple times to recharge the batteries and air the boat at night (or in the fog if you are lucky).
I never sunk anything there, only took the photo's... it is a recon mission so I wanted to sneak in and out - although there's plenty to sink if you do go in.

Happy Hunting!
