Default Nazi Summer Camp

I have found myself with a lot of free "mental" time at work, so I've begun listening to podcasts hardcore. I've recently fell upon RadioLab, by WNYC and NPR. Really intriguing stuff.

Here's a neat story about German POW's being held in US camps. It's a really interesting listen. And yes, there are frequent references to Nazi's, when in fact they mean German soldier. We know the differences, so I let it slide, but they also do address that issue a bit.

Funny, but I always noticed that: the US always seemed to describe German soldiers as "the Nazis", and the Russians always seemed to refer to them as "the fascists". Of course there would have been many of them who were not, but the US and Russia always seemed to use this political mode of description; I think the Brits just called them "Jerries".

I haven't listened to the link yet, I just thought I'd put that in first...

The Slovene term is ''švaba'' or ''schwaba'' and not all Germans were from Schwabia

My grandfather's brother was a German pilot who was a POW in Louisiana, then got out and flew for the US.

Yes, I make it a point every time I hear people talking about Germans improperly to say that only the SS and NSDAP were 'Nazis', so to speak. Most of the Krauts joined the army to serve their country, not Hitler. (Although, getting told to join or be shot kinda puts one's life into perspective)

Point made. Though, coming from German heritage (those of you who've seen my 'Just Found Out' thread, you don't want to know how screwed up I am), I also have plenty of fun with the Yanks, cockneys, Reds, drunks, and barbarians.

I'm an equal-opportunity smart-a**.
