Dear friends , i need your advice

Hello Friends,

I need your advice, I want to play silent hunter 3 + GWX on my new computer but I have a problem running the game on 1920 x 1080 resolution. I tried to use the fallowing mods:
1) SH3_XPSP2_Res_Fix_for_1.4b 2) Ahnenerbe WideGui 1920 x 1080 Final

However, the game keeps cashing, I tried many other things, including other Guis (I don’t remember the names) and NVidia scaling to fix the screen positioning issue in the menu, NO LUCK.
My question is, is there any way to run the silent hunter 3 + GWX 3.0 in the 1920 x 1080 mode, with proper GUI? If you how, I would greatly appreciate if you can put the instructions step by step.
My Computers system specs:
I7 4770k
8Gb Ram
Nvidia 980 GTX
1920 x 1080 monitor
Windows 10 (if windows will be an issue I’m willing to revert back to 7)

Silent hunter 3 + GWX is pretty much the only video game I want to play. I installed the Silent hunter 5, and I played more than 50 hours, but I did not enjoy it (I played vanilla game). Only thing that I liked in that game is the stunning visuals, graphics are just amazing, 3D models are beautiful, but in my opinion, the whole game is dumbed down, the campaign (the most important part of the game for me) is completely arcade, with some nonsense missions. So please if you know how to play Silent hunter 3 + GWX on 1920 x 1080 resolution without crashing it to the desktop let me know.

JCWolf thank you for your list!! I see you definitely know what you are doing with your mods. I never thought to run so many mods, because of stability issues and constant CTDs , even back in 2008/2010 when I use to play Silent hunter 3 With GWX extensively , I never used more then 7/8 mods at the time and most of them came with GWX.

I see you are running your setup on 1920 x 1080 , But are you using windows 10?

When I tested Ahnenerbe WideGui 1920 x 1080 Final on windows 10 , I was not running any mods at all , just to see if it works. unfortunately it did not work. the menu was dragged left side of the screen and was small , when I tried to play the game I got CTD.

However , just with high res fix the game runs fine , but its is awful to look at on wide screen.

I run GWX on a 24" monitor at a resolution of 1920 x 1080 without any resolution fix with absolutely no problems.

I am however running W7 and set the screen resolution accordingly.

Thank you Jimbuna is your 24 monitor widescreen? and how is the quality of the 3D image? and (where did you set the screen resolution accordingly? was it a SH3 confit file? or Nvidia/ATI special options?

That's okay friend , your list of mods will save me and others a lot of time. I will avoid hours of experimentation , I'm just gonna fallow most of your mod list in order. I hope I will be able to start the game soon!

Thank you THEBERBSTER! I was looking at The Wolves Of Steel Mega Mod myself yesterday and it looks promising. If all else fails I will definitely try that mod. But as you sad SH5 is TOTAL RUBBISH , and I will try my best to avoid it all together and go back to SH3 +GWX.

I solved the problem by reverting back to WINDOWS 7 , Almost everything works perfectly. Game is running and Ahnenerbe WideGui 1920 x 1080 Final is very good. Only one problem, when I click the watch officer the camera goes on the top, its kid of a bug , but I can live with that.

Conclusion/My advice

DO NOT INSTALL WINDOWS 10 , at least not for now! I had several problems with it , for one it cannot play DVD , unless you pay 14$ on app market or download third party software for free , and several other bugs that need to be worked out.
