Default Buying off of Steam

As SH3 is by far my favorite SH of them all, does anyone know if steam is selling downloadable versions of the game that are compatible with Windows 8?

Yes, it'll run on Win 8, but I wouldn't recommend buying it from Steam - not because it's bad, but because you won't be able to apply h.sie's exe mods, which are some of the best user-made additions to SHIII and should be in your install. I would recommend getting it downloaded from Amazon or gamersgate.

Unless something changed recently, Steam DRM does not allow .exe modifications (and will not allow game to start with a modified .exe). The other two only authenticate the .exe and ask for key on first launch, and will not have any problem launching with a changed .exe

I'd still recommend it from one of the other sources since it won't be tied to Steam's DRM (and doesn't require steam running in the background), but otherwise if that's the case - you shouldn't have issues on Win 8. I'm running SH3 in Windows 8.1 these days with no problem, and I haven't heard anyone having a problem with the OS specifically. Steam's version will do just fine!
