Default Sometimes it is better to watch

Well this kid got gored pretty badly at the running of the bulls in Spain. While I do feel bad that he got hurt I am also entertained as his poor decision making has been immortalized.

He can now become a high school motivational speaker.

Doesn't look like he'll be 'raising a gallop' anytime soon.

What happens to the bulls afterwards?

I am not sure I would want to listen to a "motivational speaker" who does dumb stuff.

All the ones that came by my school back when that type. Start as a professional sports player then do crack and loose everything start new career as a school motivational speaker complete with baseball style card with their picture on it. Must have had one come by twice a year.

In this case I say that the bull get a nice pasture to live out his days like Ferdinand the bull did. Not like its really his fault.

I'm just glad it didn't say that a Dutchman had been gored. In that case we would all be sending Hunter get well soon cards.

According to the animal rights people:

Quote:
Each morning bulls are forced to run a kilometre down the cobblestone streets of the town, chased by cheering participants and spectators. Once released, the bulls are frightened with gun shots, electrocuted with cattle prods and kicked and hit by jeering spectators, often down concrete or cobbled streets which they slip and slide on, suffering broken legs and other injuries in the process.
The bulls are chased into a holding pen at the bull ring, to await their deaths at the bullfights, during the ‘corrida de toros’ that take place later that evening. Whilst in the holding pens some may be subjected to further ‘weakening’ which can involve the shaving of their horns (an excruciating process which leaves them disorientated and more sensitive to pain), being debilitated with laxatives, having vaseline rubbed into their eyes to impair vision, and by being drugged.
In front of jeering crowds, the bulls are then tortured and antagonised by the matadors on horseback, waving flags and repeatedly stabbing the confused animals in the neck and back. The injured, bleeding bull, weakened and exhausted, is then killed with a sword by the picador.
If the animal is not killed immediately, it is stabbed repeatedly until paralysed. When the bull finally collapses, its spinal cord is cut, but the animal may still be conscious as its ears and tail are cut off and kept as a ‘trophies’.

^The post-quote got it backwards; the picador is the guy on horseback and the matador is the sword wielder; the picador ruins the bull's neck muscles to reduce the goring threat to the matador. the horses are quite often harmed as well.
    1. 'Injuries to the horses often include broken ribs and damage to internal organs. In the original days before bullfighting became recognizable in today's form, the picador was the central attraction and his name would be billed on the promotional flyers. In these bullfights the bull would charge the horse and the spectacle was watching the rider's skill in protecting his horse whilst lancing the bull. The picador would lance the bull as many times as necessary. This is now restricted to three 'lancings-to prevent dull bullfights'. The matador and other bullfighters were on hand to help the picador, to direct the bull to the picador, and finally to finish off the injured bull. It was not until certain foot bullfighters started to bring some flair to their minor roles, to the pleasure of the crowd, that matadors started to become the main attraction, ultimately relegating the picador to a relatively unpopular and minor function.' IMHO; an exceedingly cruel sport...if it can be termed as such. This sort of abuse is not condoned in most slaughter-houses hence the exception to the rule escapes my sense of logic.

IIRC Hunter's not a fan of bullfighting and will take an animal's side over stupid humans any day of the week.

Me too.

I'm sure if the horse could see he'd have a strong desire to be as far away from the bull as possible.

Great, not only the bull suffers, the horses are injured as well.
I was usually quiet on the mater due to my love of beef and the hypocracy behind it since it's naive to think every animal on my plate died painlessly.

But horses ????
That animal that actually bled with us during every major war and even today helps when technology fails.
For what, the barbaric amusement of the masses, providing a living shield for the false brave. No different than dog fights and should receive the same legal status
I'm bitchslapping every matador and picador I see.
