Interesting superstructure. What kind of ship is she?

Type 45, one of our newest surface vessels. The structure helps house one of the best air defence radars since the Ticos put to sea, she can track and engage more targets than five of her predecessors, the Type 42s, put together...of course, that's when their Sea Viper missiles work right. The ASuW is a bit weak too, just a Quad-Harpoon launcher plus the usual gun system, but there's room for a TLAM/TASM system to be fitted forward of the current VLS area, so hopefully if we find some money down the back of the sofa they'll fit that.
She's a competant ship, but like most British projects, needs a bit of patching post release.

If it works, it works, I dare say the captains of the old sailing ships thought the Dreadnought looked butt ugly.

True but to be fair there's never been a sailing ship that was ever ugly.

One of BAEs proposals for the Vanguard replacement is quite an interesting design:

Agree with the 'ugly' comments but that is the price you pay in reducing a vessels radar signature as close to 'stealth mode' as possible.

Below is one of her sister ships, HMS Dauntless which visited the Tyne and as you can see, she is moored at the same quay. The weather is often cloudy, dull and overcast in my part of the world.
