Errr wut?

Are you talking about an animated gif? There are free programs that will do that for you.

If you are talking about rendering a 3d object in animation, then offering somebody who has taken the time to learn 3DS or blender or any of the rendering programs out there, offering them 5 bucks is kind of an insult.

Most graphic designers won't charge less than $25 an hour, and that's if they want to be poor.

If you only want to spend $5, then I'd suggest learning blender yourself, and buy a coffee.

I only say this because I'm doing quite a bit of 3d modelling and printing work right now, and my initial startup rate for a print is $20 + volume. I then charge another $30 an hour for design work. And I'm really bad at this.

Sent you a PM duckyll.

Tell me what you need and I'll help you out.

I might be a Richard but I'm not that big of a Richard.
A member asked for help.
He didn't deserve a lecture from someone that is "really bad at this".

I can confirm this. I asked Gargamel to make a dildo on his printer and he still hasn't made one so you can see how bad he is.

You didn't pay him enuff. Dildo printing costs went way up.
Given he's admitted he's "really bad at this"?
The first one probably came out looking like a cork screw.

Watch out for that $30 bucks an hour design fee!

That would have worked out well if his customer had been a Lady Duck!

I kinda misrepresented my point.

If you're going to offer money for a service to people who do it for money, make it close to their going rate. Or better yet, don't offer a specific amount. Just offering to help renew their donation to SubSim would be enough, but by putting a specifc amount to it, people tend to translate that into labor hours.

Of course, if I knew how or what exactly he wanted, I would be willing to help out a member. Animation just isn't my thing. I would encourage him/her to try to learn it on their own, I always enjoy learning new skills. But if he's on a schedule, then maybe somebody with the right skills can help.

And for my rate, the customers I have all design their own objects and I just print. Included in the startup cost is minor adjustments I may need to make, with their input, to make it printable. But if I'm doing a design for them from scratch, then I charge the hourly rate. I have too many projects on my hands right now to be doing original design work at a non-premium rate. The printer is pretty much fire and forget, but designing takes up man hours. I work a full time job, and this is a side job I do, so the few hours I do get to work on stuff are fairly precious to me.

And yes Kranz, it shipped last week, but it was signed for by Mrs Kranz. I wondered why you almost immediately order 4 more of various larger sizes .

Right.
Something I don't understand is why you need a software such as Max to do something like image-animation. You can do it with quite a few free not-that-hard-to-use programs as Gargamel pointed out, you just need to take the time needed to make familiar with that stuff.

I didn't know about that...
Looks like there's way to make good money in the area, provided one's good at that...

You need one of those light-emitting ones, like Jeff uses...

As I am also becoming pretty competent with Arduino too.... that probably is very doable. And I can add a GPS and a wifi chip for complete datalogging abilities.
