Default Lorient Base??

Dont you guys hate docking at SH3 at lorient base??? It is so difficult to get the ship out and you cannot to make the time pass faster. Well of course you can if you are a good kaluen! But still it takes me more than 10 minutes to take the ship to the bay!?!?!?
Am I really a bad kaluen??!?!?:hmm:
Or is it just a bug

No it's not a bug. If not adjusted, SH3 limits you to 4x TC when you're in close proximity to land. If you're using SH3 Cmdr what you need to do is to set the "proximity to land" setting in the Time Compresssion section to 64x (some people's systems can handle 128x). If you're not using SH3 Cmdr you can do this manually. I've forgotten how to do this as I always use SH3 Cmdr but if you search these boards I'm sure that you'll find out how. Just be sure that you carefully plot your course when close to land & it's very easy to run aground and remember that damage accumulates very quickly at high TC rates (your boat can be fatally damaged before you can take any action).

Additionally, if you're traveling under 4 knots you can speed up the time compression past the default X2/X4.

No probs here - when in Lorient I choose to use SH3Cmdr's "Start patrols at sea" option.

Even though my "LandProximity" TC is a high x512, starting at sea still saves me ~5 realtime minutes (and a lot of keystrokes through not having to raise the TC again after every "Ship spotted" message).

I never knew that was an option with SH3Cdr. Where is that option located?

Can't believe I missed that Is this something only in the newest version?

What I do when I depart Lorient is take my OOD and all but one watch crew and put them in quarters. I take the radio man and sonar man also in quarters.

I can usually maintain TC-4 in the harbour.

At least it is a whole lot better than the canal!!!

I nice touch is the sound of the bells chiming on the bouys rolling in the waves as you exit or enter the estuary. I only noticed this at Lorient, though I am sure they must be near other bases as well.

Regards

I do the the "to within 30 clicks & hit Esc" if I had an unsatisfactory patrol but sometimes I just want to "show off in front of the girls" so I take the boat in all the way.

No problem navigating, but yes, it is a pain. Not quite sure why they stuck the pier way back where they did. The actual bunker pens are much closer to the harbor inlet.

Do you realize you're directly answering a post made six years ago?

That is the nice thing about this forum - time is irrelevant - we all live in the past . . .
