What a horrible thing to do. The sentence is deserved but I've never been at peace with charging minors as adults.

A combination of USA paranoia and Laws gone over the edge, thanks to that ignoramus, Bush and cronies, and a stupid kid, who and his parents, should know better.

While this definitely deserves some form of punishment 25 years is something not even a lot of murderers get here. Totally exaggerated especially considering that it's a 15 years old.

Are they crazy ?

This was a prank, if a bad one, from a 15-year-old boy !

25 years ?!
Does the US version of criminal law relating to young offenders really say that ??

There is only so far you can go with discipline today in the USA. I've no idea what this kids parents are like but they may have done all they could without child protective services knocking on the door.

It's not a prank is the point. The victims Dad was shot in the raid.

Perhaps you missed the part where the targets father was shot. This kid attempted murder. That's definitely worth 25 years.

He deserves punishing so he realises that his stupidity has serious consequences but as others have said it seems a little OTT, 18-24 months in a young offenders prison I think would have been more suitable.

@August
Yes missed that part, sorry.

Very bad, but there should be other methods. I guess this kid has already learned his lesson - bad enough to live with this

I disagree. This teen should have been charged as an adult. And while I don't like the Patriot act on principle I do think the teen got a fair punishment. At 15 one should know they can't call the police with a fake call, and putting people's lives at risk.

I was going to say "In before Bush's fault" but no.

Im a huge proponent of personal responsibility

this kid is responsible for his actions, when i was 15 i knew the difference between right and wrong, and while i might have crank called a hardware store asking for left handed screw drivers, or underhanded hammers or whatever... i would have NEVER in my wildest dreams phoned in a fake murder to get the cops to raid someone's home

the punk got exactly what he deserved... especially since the innocent resident of the home could have died from his injuries.

I wont blame the parents on this one, though they surely are responsible for some of this mess... the kid knew what he was doing when he phoned in the false report, he should have known better.

I would say let him sit in federal prison for at least 5 or 6 years, then overturn the sentence.

what a moron.

The Zeitgeist...

Naturally the story continued by describing how dangerous it is for the police to serve no knock warrants and the consequences to them and occupants of the home in the process.

Perhaps, if the police stopped raiding homes like a bunch of jack booted storm troopers who shoot anything that moves, these kinds of tragedies might be avoided. Even if some fool kid SWATS a rival with a false police report.
There are both audio and video tools available to see what's going on in the house before you go knocking down the bloody door. That is if they could refrain from screaming up to the place with lights and sirens telegraphing their approach, they could sneak up and have a peek very easily.

At any rate, young master Horner is going to have a long time to contemplate his stupidity.
. Used as an example ya think?
We could send him some Preparation H.
"Here you go Warden, got you a nice young body for the prison factory."
"He work for you long time."

If the news story is accurate, it sounds a bit more than a prank.

I am not writing that I agree with the sentence, but it is more than a prank. Bet he won't be doing that again.
