I would also like to know. I have this problem too and I have CTDs so I'm not sure if it matters or not.

Default DirectX

I'm getting pretty good FPS until warships show up and start shooting. Then I get a lot of lag. I'm wondering if my DirectX version may be to blame. I'm running DirectX 9.0c.

SHould I and can I update it to version 11?

Is it dependent on the operating system (Windows XP32) or the video card (GTX 460)

XP can only run DirectX9. DirectX10 and DirectX11 are Vista/Win7 only.

Ok, thanks. That's what I thought but its been a while since I dealt with DirectX so I couldn't remember.

Second question...I'm getting a lot of lag when there are explosions and fire. I've applied the antilag fix, turned off vertical sync and lowered particle effects but I still get stuttering when there are explosions. Are there any other quick fixes that are well known that I'm missing to remedy this? My new GPU should eat these graphics for lunch????

WinXP32
GTX 460
e6700
3 gigs ram

Try turning your shadows slider down in the graphics options. Might also try a lower screen resolution.
