Default Hell, No, They can't Go...

I knew "retention" was becoming more difficult for the US military, but, really:

Maybe this is the "zombie army" the conspiracy theorists harp on about...

How can they even accidentally send out draft cards if the US doesn't even have a draft anymore? I don't get it.
For the rest of the story: must be the latest year 2000 crash in history.

While there is no actual draft, the Selective Service System still does exist. The Far Right fought tooth and nail after the debacle of Vietnam against sentiment to scrap the draft and keep the draft system intact as a standby system in the event of the need for a draft. All males must register at the time of their 18th birthday or face penalties up to including making them ineligible for student loans or educational grants. Oddly, given the clamor for women to be allowed to take combat roles, young women are not required to register...

Looks like my earlier post went quite a bit deeper.

Well, since no draft cards were send out, it is impossible to answer that question.

These were just selective service registration notices. Something I had to do in the summer of 1972 and I was even put through the draft lottery but, my number was so high that I would never be called up and by 1974, the Viet Nam conflict was in draw down prior to the pull out.
The notices are still sent out to all males 18 years of age. The story was generated by a number transposition mistake in birth years for the effected individuals. But still a shock for the relatives of these men. Most of whom are already deceased.

I'm sure, if most of the gents were still above ground, they would be flattered at being considered so young.

The grandson of one of the men said in an interview on radio that if his grandfather were still alive, he would have reported for induction...

After having read Haldeman's "The Forever War" and this, i am sure they must have somehow invented faster-than-light speed.
