Copy the file you want to edit and save it in Documents. Edit it there and copy and paste it back into your SH3 folder. Be sure to keep an original copy.

Have you checked to make sure you haven't got it set to read only in the folder or something?

Also, I'd use Notepad++. Making config edits with plain Notepad is so ghetto.

Even if you get it from D2D as a download and install it into the default install location(likely somwhere in Program Files) then you will not get write permissions with any editor. It is Windows that is protecting against file tampering in that Program Files folder.

Not sure what WP means, as Word Perfect is long gone afaik. NP means notepad I presume. You would have to run any editor as an administrator. But then Windows directs My Documents to that of the administrator, and not your personal account.

Either way, the editor should not add any formatting to the file! So (Microsoft) Word, Word Perfect or Word Press I suppose, or Adobe somthing is a no go. Unless you make them save the file as a simple text file without any formatting code. Or SH3 will freak out.
