Just YESTERDAY I watched that famous classic movie (finally) and was amazed to learn he was still alive... now he just died.

But he had a long life and sure can look back on a hell of a journey, so instead of mourning him, I am happy for him and raise my whiskey tonight in his name.

Farewell, Eli!

This doesn't have a thing to do with Eli Wallach kicking the bucket. But it reminded me of another movie, The Good Bad and the Wierd, most excellent, highly recommended.

BLONDIE!

Best roles by far were the spaghetti westerns.

RIP Tuco

I've seen him in so many movies I can't begin to remember them all. My personal favorite is the "man in the oil" scene from Circle of Iron, aka The Silent Flute. I wish I could show it to you, but the only clip I could find had loud Russian dubbing. I would recommend the movie. The whole thing is good, but Wallach's scene is hilarious, and well worth the price by itself.

I had a similar experience back in 1989 when Tommy Sopwith died right after I found out he was still alive.

I remember the great role he played in the movie "The Misfits":

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0055184/

This film was basically the "last hurrah" for Gable, Monroe, and Clift. But I feel it was Wallach's role, serving as a sort of center for the other, more well-known stars, that really made the film and held it together...

It should be noted Wallach is survived by his wife, the actress Anne Jackson, to whom he was wed for 66 years, a miracle in the world of Hollywood...

RIP, Mr. Wallach, and thank you for the memories you have left for us...

My friend Rocky always loved quoting what he called "Tuco's Law": "If your gonna shoot, shoot! Don't talk about it!"

I liked his western character parts, but I also remember him from The Tiger Makes Out. That was an odd movie.

I noticed he was in Genghis Kahn. I thought I had seen that, but I was thinking of the John Wayne movie, The Conquerors.

R.I.P.
