Default Very Fun Nerve Racking Encounter Yesterday

Good little story I had to share

Yesterday started new patrol going to try to make it thru the war since my mod list is now final.

So I was sailing down to the Baltic Operations Area where I would intercept Polish Task Force and when I came about 20nm from the area I recieved a alarm from my watch crew.. "Periscope Sighted" so I dove to periscope depth immediately hoping the enemy sub did not detect me also. To my surprise the British U-Class Sub did not and he was coming on a bearing in my direction from a bearing of 150*. At this moment I went "Silent Running" and full stop leaving my periscope submerged just bringing it up every so many minutes as to not be detected. When sub came into range I fired two fish with both being dud's, I immediately ordered 90* evasive maneuver to avoid being fired upon. As I was diving and turning two British fish went over my stern and I knew it had been a lucky break, I stayed at 80m for about 30 min with the sub circling overhead... then I rose to periscope depth set the fish to high speed and sent everything I had, with the sub at 600m. In what felt like hours I heard a loud explosion and quickly raised the observation periscope to discover the sub had been hit by one of the torpedo's, I was so happy but more relieved than anything. This was the first enemy sub I had ever encountered specially with the IRAI_42, sinking that sub was a bigger deal to me than any merchant or destroyer I will encounter during the upcoming war. It was a huge moral booster for me and my men

I ran into that guy too. Nice job slapping him down. I tried to sink/damage/destroy him using the deck gun. He never went under to avoid or evade, never died or took damage. I didn't want to waste a torpedo but I guess that is the only way to for sure get him I was told.

Was this your bogey?

Last night on that same mission I lost contact with the Polish taskforce and picked up contact of another 3 ship group and guess who. I identified her as the Emden and 2 German escorts, probably type 34 escorts. Nice of BdU to tell us they were going to be operating in the area. Or what direction to expect them from.

I did this mission again this morning and I found another weird thing...

Not sure if this is by design or what but there is a British class destroyer with the Polish flag flying. Not sure if this by design or what but check it out...

That is definitely HMS Walker Class.

I guess UBI didn't want to take the trouble to model the lesser navies. Looks like the DD's in service with the Poles in '39 were either British or French built.

I was surprised too. I did get a confirmed ID on the other one, you can see it in the background on the far right.

In this close up here is the Gryf which was a Polish Minelayer according to the sim.
