Default IS SH5 worth playing at this point?

Hi all,

I've been a fan of subsims for a while and registered here a while ago. I like many others at the time was very disappointed by the release of SH5, and besides that my computer couldn't run it very well anyway. I have a new computer now, and I haven't loaded up SH5 in years, so my question is, is it worth playing now? Is there a popular mod out there like TMO that makes it realistic? I've scrolled through the mod forum but I must admit I'm rather confused

Yes, check out the stickies in the SH5 Forum. There are 3-4 larger mods plus many others. Also there are some great how to threads and tutorials to help you along. Check those out and if stuck, ask more questions. Good luck with it.

Let's ask some others.

Bottom line: A great many people think it's the best of all the Silent Hunter series. Others disagree, but as far as being playable? It is very much so and has been for quite some time now.

Well to be honest my first impressions were to uninstall it and try get SH3 running on my new machine but thought I would persevere and get some of the mods out there.

Once I started to get the mods going the game started to grab hold of me and I am to like it (not love it yet) but getting the mods working can be a nightmare (for me at least). Some go in easy, others damned hard.

Currently I am tearing my hair out (what is left of it) trying to get the gramaphone shuffle mod and a new skin installed and have spend more time installing mods then playing.

Short answer - it is worth it if you are prepared to put time into the game.

Nothing but praise for the modders who made the game worth playing.

That is what I have found with much of the Silent Hunter Series. Mods are what make them great, and it takes time to tune things to where you want them. But two things happen in the process: you learn a lot about mods, installing, tweaking, etc; two in the end you the game is tailored to where you want it.
