Disc version wants to install from steam?

(Apologies if this is asked often; I tried a couple of searches but couldn't find a thread about this - I didn't try very hard granted..)

Hi, I bought SH5 on steam a while back, but then read that some of the mods wouldn't work, particularly one regarding the hydrophone I believe. This seemed pretty crucial, so I bought a disc version.

I removed everything I could find of the old steam version; uninstalled from steam, removed save games folder from documents, removed uplay.

I went to run it from the exe file and it prompts to download from steam! Can anyone suggest how can I install from the disc and avoid it installing from Steam?

It opens uplay, and it is when I click play on uplay that it starts the steam install.
