SHO Purchasing Game

Hi folks! ~S~

I'm thinking about getting SHV. Its 10$ on steam. Seems work the price, my only concern is , well I don't know.? Do I want to avoid Steam or is a steam purchase ok? Can it be fully modded, patched and played online?

Welcome recently new subsimmer.

Avoid steam at all costs for SH5 if possible. In the SH5 mods forums, there is a thread called [TEC] SH5.exe patches. If you purchase the steam version of the game, you will not be able to use this vital patcher.

Don't buy from Steam I just learned the hard way and ended up buying it off Amazon also. So I spent $20

I got my copy on Gamersgate back when the game first came out, back then it was super buggy and I hadn't touched it since. I'm redownloading it now seeing as how people have said it's been fixed up. I'm going to give it a shot.

Anyway, Gamersgate has it as well, and I've used that service for a very long time with no complaints at all.

I'd suggest clicking on the 'Quick Links' (top right of the page) and purchasing from Amazon.com. That way SubSim will receive a small commission payment at no extra cost to you to help pay for the upkeep of the servers.

Welcome aboard Jaeger.

As Jimbuna says, buy the dvd from Amazon.com so SubSim gets a commission.

How about Gamersgate?

edit I have an account there. I just want to get a copy I wont regret. Is gamersgate ok?

When I do decide to get the game, I will donate more than the buck and a half that Amazon will give to Subsim.

You want to get the DVD, NOT a download. That's why we said Amazon.com.

I bpoght the download from Amazon, and it has no issues. It's the same software you get on the DVD. I suspect that is true for the Gamersgate product as well. AFAIK, only the Steam version has issues.

With the DVD you don't have to keep downloading it if something happens to your SH5 install. Especially if you lose the key code, then what? The DVD is a no brainer to me.

I keep a record of the key code (on removable media. ;-)). And the key code and download are available from my on-line Amazon account. Takes a couple of minutes to download SH5. I don't have to store boxes and boxes of DVDs that I never use. And it's instant grats! What's not to love? YMMV.
