Default Questions on stock SH3

I'm a come back player for SH3 and I have some questions

1) I play stock SH3 on steam and I see a lot of you guys talking about GWX, and I know that's an free expansion, my question is does this pack compatible with steam? my computer is windows 7

2) upon playing career mode, what I've encountered is usually convoy consited of t2/3 tankers, c2/3 cargos and some merchant staff, but never an aircraft carrier or battleships, is there anyway to encounter them?

3) I'm currently in late 1940 and I've transfered to Brest, so do you guys recommend raiding some of the ports? Like scapa flow at this time? Am I gonna encounter some battleships?

Check out "Steam tutorials" in this forum. There are some helpful videos on how to better work with the Steam Version of this game. Someone with a lot more experience than I will probably chime in

Hi rothschildzj, welcome back to SH3 and to the forum.

1. Can't answer that, I avoid Steam. Someone with greater knowledge will be along to help.

2. I was playing stock until a few months ago and capital ships are few and far between. You will get radio contact reports of a 'task force' at a certain point from time to time but unless you are pretty close to them or their course they will be too fast for normal interception. Not all TF's will contain capital ships.

The U-Boats historically had a poor record when set against large warships deliberately. Loch Ewe (NW Scotland) and Rosyth (Firth of Forth) are bases used by capital ships as well as Scapa but whether anything will be there when you pay them a visit is hit 'n' miss.

3. In late 1940 don't expect to get away with a repeat of U-47's stunt. The defences will be much stronger and you'll need a lot of luck as well as skill. It's good fun raiding a port but remember to make your will out before you leave port.

Caution: Don't save the game while <50km of a port. On reloading you may find the ships in the harbour have run themselves aground and you won't have anything to sink.

1. GWX is compatible with the steam version

2. Yes, there is a way to encounter carriers, task forces, and battleships sailing in and out of convoy... You get these by installing GWX

3. In stock, you will probably encounter seagulls and a beautiful view of the beachfront. With GWX - depending upon the year, port raiding may prove impossible due to sub nets, mines, blockade ships, harbor patrol craft, destroyers, shore battery, search lights, harsh language, knives, sharp sticks, rocks, etc.
