Will the digital version on steam be a "newer" version of the game?Or is it EXACTLY the same as the DVD version off Amazon?

It's the same. There is no newer version of SH5. Patch 1.2 is the latest patch that you must use, and there will be no more coming from UBI.... ever. They dropped the ball on SH5 and never finished it. That's the reason for all of the mods so it's playable.

It should install the same as XP in the Ubisoft folder on C drive. Not in Program Files. If you have a shortcut on your desktop delete it. Go into the Ubisoft folder and make a new short cut for the exe and cut/paste it to your desktop. It should now start from there. I had the same problem and now it's fixed.

Windows Defender (same as MicroSoft Security Essentials, but a newer version) gave no problem with the install.

One thing I need to ask. Where is the SH5 folder for your game saves found in 8.1 that was saved in the My Documents folder with XP?
