Im being uber lazy and asking you guys how to return the bearing indicator to the binocular view. If you could point me in the right direction for a mod or download or how to fix it manually I would be extemely grateful. I have had a sift through the gameplay and graphics mods but I can only find one that changes it for OLC GUI. Also I would like to know if its possible to have alternate levels of zoom for all optics and if it is possible how do I change them. I'm a bit fed up of only being able to see a porthole through the UZO from a 1000m or less. I'm not bothered about realism I just want to make the game more enjoyable for me.

I would like to know the answer to this also.
I do not think this would really be much of a "cheat". Because if you were actually standing on the bridge you would have an idea of spacial perception as to which bearing your body was facing, based on where your feet are. But very frequently when I switch to binocular view and pan the horizon looking for the ship sighted contact and I cannot find it, I zoom back out only to find I'm looking 45 degrees or more past where I thought I was actually looking. A bearing indicator on the binocular view would give you some idea of where you were looking to make up for your lack of real-life spacial perception. I would not even mind if there were no actual bearing numbers, just N/NE/E/SE/S/SW/W/NW indicators. Or their numerical equivalents with no divisions. The bino view just needs to give some idea of the general direction you are looking. Steve |

I suppose in way having the bearing indicator would be more realistic as the UZO (master sight) was only used to calculate and plug in torpedo solutions and was mounted only when needed, the watch officers binos were used for everything else. Thats my understanding of the surface attack scene in Das Boot anyway. I'm not the most knowledgeable about this sort of thing though. Sat behind a computer monitor we lack the spacial awareness the bearing indicator gave us in the stock version and I want it back. I can edit the files myself, I just don't know where to start. The GWX dev team should know. The UZOs and binoculars default zoom level is the same as maximum zoom on the periscope or its very close at least but its just too much. It would be nice to add another level of zoom if its possible. I'm sure it is. With the amazing mods I've found and have been using lately the game is so vastly different to the stock game I would never turn back. I'm even talking to my crew to give them orders using SH3speech so something as simple as that should be easily done.

Open Data/Menu/menu_1024_768.ini. Scroll down to [G27 I5].
Change Mat 0=data/menu/gui/bearing2.tga to Mat 0=data/menu/gui/bearing.tga. This puts the bearing back onto the binos when you look through them John |

There is also the GWX Gold Bino Mod that puts a cardinal direction indicator (N - NE – E – SE – S - etc.) on the binoculars, but it does not read in degrees.
The manual edit above is easier.
