Default Ship close but not spotted.

I have a problem - although the weather is good and the sea is calm my crew can't spot an enemy merchat. The enemy ship is about 800 meters away, i can se it from the bridge, i can see it from UZO but can't lock it up, can't choose the type of the ship from the recognition book. when i get really close, like 400-500 meter i get the ship spotted notification. It's a bit annoying that i have to get so close to an enemy ship on calm waters to engage and recognize it. Any suggestions? Oh and the great uderwater spotting crew bug just rocks I use these mods:

I see that you're using Real Environment, which looks great but sometimes has insane fog issues. Even in 'light' fog, visibility can be down to a few hundred meters. Drives me nuts.

It is the real environment mod.

I go back and forth from allied sub to German and use many of the same mods your using. The fog while it can be frustrating at times can also be your friend. While the crew can not see the ships, and they can not see you, due to the limit placed on visibility in the mod you can so use this to your advantage.

First I would learn to target them without auto lock. You can still fire at them with your torpedoes you simply need to make your shots manually. The other thing you can do is use your deck gun. They can not see you. Your within 800 yards of a ship so blow her out of the water. I have killed numerous escorts this way.

If you are surfaced they tend to not notice you unless your close or they have radar. Even with radar I will slow down or speed up depending on the fog visibility to keep them just far enough away so they do not see me but I can still manually use the deck gun and see them.

This can work even at night, in storms, where visual range is maybe less than 100 yards.

I have trained myself to find their bearing using sonar then get close enough to fire in that direction adjusting slowly until I get a hit. Once I have a hit I keep firing until they are burning so they are more easily spotted in the night time storm.

Learn to make fog your friend and allie. Even if an escort gets close and fires at you most times a quick turning maneuver puts you out of their sight once more and then you can pound him with your deck gun.

GET AGGRESSIVE!!

I noticed your running two stock mods (game version 1.4)but you are not running a stock game. You have the U-boat add-on so you have version 1.5 correct? This may give you issues somewhere so I would suggest finding other mods of similar nature that are for your version of the game.

Thank you for your help! Yes now that you mentioned it I belive it may be the fog. I am running the 1.5 version of the game. What are those stock mods? I just started to attack manually with torpedos while chasing the ships through the fog I also got so excited that I entered an allied dock and destroyed two ships; would do more damage but my torpedoes went out. And here is my other question: I have the IIC U-Boat, when will I have an oportunity to change it? It only has 5 torpedoes and no deck gunEdit: I just found out that Real Environment IS included in OMEGU, need to check that. Do these chases through the fog and close attacks are historically correct?

There is a fix for the fog if you use Real Env, you should be able to find it in the mods forum here...

Not sure if Real Env is compatible with OM or if it has it's own env. Most modders include and env tweaked to their mod.

Real Environment should be only used when OMEGU is not installed as that is an environmental mod itself.
