Default Thief franchise(PC)

I am sure some of you played the Thief titles at some point.I played all three some time ago.

So I decided to pick up the Thief Collection from Gamers Gate(for the Blue Coins ) Thief Gold,Thief II,and Thief Deadly Shadows.

These games are pretty darn cool in a lot of respects and they true stealth games. It is really fun to sneak around and whack a guy in the noggin with a blackjack I must say.Of course you have other gizmos to use like flash bombs and water arrows(douse torches),noise marker arrows,Moss arrows(spread moss on the ground to make for silent stepping on noisy surfaces).

The AI is pretty darn good even in Thief Gold a 1998 game. The guards have fairly good hearing and they will notice things like a closed door being open and come to investigate.I also love what the guards say to themselves and each other. It can be rather funny. For example in Thief Gold the Hammerites they kind of remind me of Monty Python and the Holy Grail."Come forth from the shadows and show thee".

Thief and Thief II have more or less the exact same play dynamics and the same engine and Thief Deadly Shadows uses Unreal(I think) the game play is a little different from the previous games though still plenty of good fun sneaking around to do.

One thing I do not like in Deadly Shadows is that the blackjack hit detection is IMO nerfed if they even began to turn it wont knock them out.In the previous titles even if you are spotted if you startled them you can get a knock out if you hit them right as they react. To me that is more realistic it takes a few seconds to ready for combat and in that time a sudden strike should still knock out.You can also get a startled knockout even head on in the older titles which again I think is more realistic again it not like a person just suddenly becomes knock out proof in 1 nano second.

Anyway just thought that I would mention a good old PC game series in case you guys are bored of the newer stuff. You can get all three for $19.99 on Steam or GG and GOG also has the titles or get one them for about $6~$8 dollars.

There is a Thief 4 coming out but it looks nothing like the old games and is not even on my radar screen to be honest.

If you pick up one or all of the titles there are some mods you basically need to make the games run well on a modern OS.Thief and Thief II need one of two mods
Someone made a guide for Thief Gold and Thief II you can use their mod TGtool/T2Tool or TFix/TafferPatcher links in the links. For Thief Deadly Shadows you can play that unmodded but I would use
Sneaky Upgrade as it improves the game play by fixing tons of little bugs and it had FOV fixes and widescreen support as well.
