Default Stock depth charge depth

Hi all. How far down do the depth charges go in the stock game? I haven't seen them go below 100 meters. I once had a mod from dark wraith that helped with subs holding depth. Now I feel like I'd like to go back to what the stock game had before I activated the mod. It seems to have permanently changed my depth holding settings.

Basically I'm diving to 130-160 meters and never see depth charges that far down. Does the stock AI ever get harder? I'm in July 1941. Western approaches campaign.

Thanks
Eric

Early in the war, the allies only have the Mark VII Depth charge (Ash Can), and that has a maximum explosion depth of 90 meters.

Later on they upgrade to the "Tear drop" charge, the Mark 9 which can explode at 160 meters (?) and they are very dangerous, especially when combined with an expert destroyer crew and an advanced sonar and hydrophone technology.

So, to an extent they do get harder.
If you want the AI to behave realitically, you should use TDW's IRAI mod, it makes the game so much realistic and entertaining.

V13dweller,

Thank you! That was exactly the answer I was searching for! Hit the nail on the head. One last question... Can you remember the date or year they upgrade their depth charges? Just wondering. Thanks again.

I am always happy to help.

And about the Mark 9, I skimmed through all the ship equipment files for you and on average, based on my knowledge and what the game files show, some ships gain the Mark 9's around 1943.

You will also see a new and much more effective weapon, the Hedgehog.

The hedgehog is a devastating area of effect weapon, it fires a large amount of mortar like rounds in front of the ship, and unlike the depth charges, these do not have a maximum depth, they just keep going and explode on impact with your sub and are so much morer accurate abd deadly the depth charge could ever be.
