Stock version solution for generic patcher?? i need counsil

Hi guys....i ask to myself a question....
I have the silent hunter 5 version from steam, so i can't use the generic patcher of TDW.
but I thought...." and if I download the torrent version of the game, install the patchs and after insert the serial key of steam...will it be like if I had a copy of the stock game,so i can use the generic patcher????
