Default I want to lose the fairy-tale beginning permanently!

When I used to load GWX 3.0, I got the black screen reading 'Not so long ago...' but it seems that after loading via SH3 Cmndr that the same screen now reads 'Once upon a time...' which sounds too much like a bleedin' fairy tale for my liking! I've found where this text is located in Menu_en and have changed the text and saved it, but when I reload the game, it still gives the same crappy message. How do I change this permanently?

Which en_menu.txt do you edit? The one in the mods folder or the one in the actual game files?

I edited the one in data/menu after having my mod soup ready and it seems to stay there regardless if I start the game through Commander or not.

(Doing it like this is somewhat sloppy as this returns to the original the next time you use JSGME)

If you use SH3 Commander then it can overwrite any data you manually type into the Menu_en file. Try opening SH3 Commander's Cfg\Randomised Events file and add the following lines:

;----------------------------------------------------------------------------------WB's RANDOMISED LOAD MESSAGE - Max 26 characters
[1:data\Menu\en_menu.txt]
ApplyToPeriod=19390101|19450531
ChooseFrom=10
RndMidPat=1

0_STRINGS|961=Not so long ago...
1_STRINGS|961=SINK 'EM ALL...
2_STRINGS|961=BE MORE AGGRESSIVE...
3_STRINGS|961=Initializing...
4_STRINGS|961=That's no moon...
5_STRINGS|961=We become what we do...
6_STRINGS|961=War is hell...
7_STRINGS|961=Take calculated risks...
8_STRINGS|961=Attack! Attack! Attack!
9_STRINGS|961=All war is deception...

I did this a few years ago for one of my SH3 Commander mods but can't remember which mod it was (I've copied the lines above from my own install). You can add any message you like as long as you:
1. Follow the format above
2. Increase the 'Choose From' value to include any you add (bearing in mind that the first number is zero, so if you get to 76_STRINGS then choose from should be 77)
3. Ensure the number of characters is less than 26
