Make contact with convoy in CO68 at 0030hrs.
Only 5 fish left. 4 forward - 1 aft Get past escorts (3) and fire all forward tubes. 2 at tanker, 1 each at two merchants. Tanker goes down. ![]() 1 Merch goes down. ![]() 2nd Merch hit. Listing to port, dead in water. Escorts play their game. Damage = Loss of deck gun, flak and damage to conning tower. Dive deep and play dead for 3 hrs. Periscope depth to find escorts have moved off. 2nd Merch listing so far that port side is awash. Position for aft tube to finish her off. Torpedo detonates half way to target! Hull integrity at 93% ![]() Circle around to starboard and surface about 500yrds, at full speed. Bang, Clang and Grinding. Then BOOM and she starts to go under. Full rudder to peel away and dive to 25 meters. Back home to Salamis. Never heard of anyone else ramming - was more of a hard shove to kick her over. I guess I got greedy and didn't want to leave her. I won't try this again. Anyone else have this happen?

i once took out a destroyer out when it rammed me once, that was several years ago though. and i did the same to a heavy cruiser listing heavily couldn't aim at me

Worked for Howard Gilmore R/L, though he had a lot more boat going for him than a Typ 7. And it didn't end well for Gilmore. He earned the CMH in that action.
