I started a U-boat campaign with FOTSRU installed but having problems progressing. The Japanese traffic in the pacific is huge which slows down time compression every few seconds. The US air presence is also intense, there's almost always a plane hovering above at any time, and they find me day or night. which forces me to go submerged for long periods of time, but the battery of the Type IXD2 drains very quickly and takes forever to recharge, essentially making me stuck. I don't mind the challenge but combined with Japanese convoys everywhere it makes progression almost impossible and eventually caused the game to crash. Just wondering is it supposed to be like this because the main FOTRSU campaign is very different and doesn't have those issues.

FotRS-U-EN, is straight up, for going out on patrols, as a U. S. skipper. If you want to do careers, as a Kaleun, then I'd strongly suggest going with a fresh, separate installation of SH4 & modding it with: Operation Monsun: Dark Waters, instead... Hope this helps... M. M.

As Mad Mardigan says, the FotRSU mod is made for the US side. You should be able to play the German side to the "Stock" level, which does have many "errors" in it, but the thing to remember is that the Monsun Gruppe begins in June 1943. By that time, the US was well-acquainted with ASW, and was killing German U-Boats in the Atlantic at a prodigious rate already. The closer you get to the Japanese "Ultimate Line of Defense", the larger the US air presence will be, especially when a CV Taffy gets close to where you are, and then they will swarm on you. Be aware where the "front lines" are. when getting within 500nm of those, do not use Time Compression over 1024. It is also recommended to not stay on the surface during the daylight hours, rather submerging to 160ft, or 50m, so that your submarine most likely will not be seen by an overflying airplane. When submerged, do not exceed Ahead One Third while on battery, unless necessary for your boat's survival. When on the surface at night, be aware that the US planes had radar at their disposal, and could hunt you at night. Also be aware that some of the airplanes in FotRSU do have Leigh Lights fitted, so you might also be "lit" and have rockets shot at you as you attempt to Crash Dive, after which you will have depth charges dropped on you. The later in the war the game gets, the worse that is. The big thing is to NOT be seen, and if you are, Crash Dive, turning toward or away from the airplane, such that you minimize your profile to their approach, and once deep enough (daylight needs "deep" ASAP, night time not so much), drastically change course and go to Ahead One Third, and realize that the airplane will report your location, and other assets will be vectored to your location. Rember though, for now, you are just playing a dressed-up stock Monsun Gruppe Stock game set-up in FotRSU.
