Default most embarasing in game moments

I will start off with my embarrassment today that sponsored this post and not all the embarassing thingds have to be about a lost Kaleun.
have you ever played a campaign and not realize the date in game after a few patrols? and only start to notice it when you look at torpedoes and a few small upgrades to your sub? or worse when you get detected by radar and sunk and only notice the date at the dead screen.

well the radar got me today because i didn't realize the date IG was December 1942 and had what seemd like a flotilla of destroyers heading straight to me and of course i have the no vampire nights mod on so my watchers didn't spot them till it was too late and they had kicked on the search lights. in 2 shots U-106 and a crew of 48 and Kaleun GUSTAV MÜNSTER where sent to Davy Jone's locker.

my most embarrassing sh3 moment would have to be the time i raided scapa flow

i snuck in, did well in the attack and sank a revenge class and was sneaking out around 2am

a destroyer detected me and headed in for the kill, i proved to be a slippery fish and managed to evade his first depth charge run even in the shallow water. i had one of the forward tubes reloaded already and the stern tube was never fired. so i took a snapshot at him and he evaded the torpedo.

he came around for another pass... this time he depth charged me and i took a few serious blows. one of my diesels was destroyed.

i took another shot at him, this time the stern tube and the fish found the target sinking the destroyer.

i was almost out the west side of scapa flow when i decided to surface in the darkness and make a run for it before other DDs showed up

so i hit the surface and ordered ahead flank.

i went to time compression of about 256 i guess, for several minutes i was plotting a course out of the flow and into the North Sea and assigning my damage control team to make various minor repairs to the boat.

thats when i realized on the map screen i had not moved an inch!!!

im at ahead flank! the one good diesel is throbbing away and im stopped!

well the remaining diesel was running at flank alright... and it was charging the batteries. (ie not turning a prop)

i ducked my head and ordered the recharge stopped and we proceeded under normal propulsion out of the area

i had been sitting on the surface at flank speed and zero knots for close to 30 minutes in game before i realized what was going on

We had a very successful patrol and a good number of tonnage sunk in our 6 weeks at sea. When we came back to Kiel we started seeing friendly traffic coming to/from the port area signifying that we were almost home.

Just as I went below to get my cleanest uniform on (at 512 time compression) we collided with a boat tender, caught on fire and sunk within visual distance of the harbor.

Yeah. That happened.

I'd like to think we've all instructed the nav to follow course without actually setting one and crashing just out of port.

My earliest was when I ran into the dock at Wilhelmshaven.

My latest was during a Med career, leaving Toulon in September 1943, I get an "Aircraft spotted!" by my watch crew. Bernard, my watch officer at the time, identifies them as Italian Ju-87 Stukas. No problem, they're our allies and I can ignore my Kaleun's standing order to dive upon sighting all aircraft.

Hmmmm, that's odd, they appear to be diving toward us. What the...! They're attacking. ALARM!!!!

It appears Bernard forgot the memo that the Italians switched sides.

Luckily the damage was minor and I was able to continue the patrol.

I know we've had this thread before, but I can't find it no matter how hard I look.

Okay, fine. I was shelling a freighter when it exploded, killing me along with the entire bridge crew, and some of the Kriegsmarine's finest instructors.

This was during the artillery course at the academy.

Off the coast of Portugal in very bad weather in mid 1941. Got a sound contact and along comes a huge large merchant out of the gloom and rain. I was at periscope depth, desperately trying to see the flag. Took a chance, without seeing the flag, and hit him with two eels-perfect. However my crew did not cheer-they were dead silent.

Finally got a view of the flag at 300m-big old red meatball on a white field.

She sank-score one for me-a German sinking a Jap.

I really wish I could find that old thread. It was highlighted by the story of a player who sailed all the way to the Pacific and sank a large ship there, only to realize later that it was his only supply ship.

Last night on my pre-war cruise I decided to visit New York to see the sights. Sailed into the harbour area under thick fog and went roaming with the external camera...

Next thing I know "we are taking damage..." etc etc.

Quick fly back to the sub and notice we have scrapped along the pier beside the statue of liberty and damaged our fresh paint work.

Only minor damage but sure gave the locals something to photograph!

Lets hope this is not a bad omen for U-49!

Spotted a convoy off the gib strait, sta patiently for it to roll over me. Pop up to scope depth, fire off all my eels. I get the simultanious messages "torpedo hit", pop up the scope to look at my handiwork, when wallop, a sinking C2 catches me by the bow and drags me down. Front compartments damaged and flooding in about 290m of water. How i never crushed i dont know. The pic is somewhere on here. Fixed the damage and limp, very carefully back to lorient
