Default Texture Advice

Hi,

Just reinstalled SH3 after many years!
I stumbled upon this site and have now updated my version to GWX3 and SH3 Commander.
Both of these look to have improved the game vastly since I last played.
I was looking through some of the files and noticed the folder called Textures and thought hmmm, maybe I can modify these (the idea being to add U-Boat number and maybe some kind of personal decoration, like a sharks teeth paintjob similar to WW2 fighter planes tiger mouths!)
I havnt modified anything yet but the textures Im looking at (ones in data/textures/TLowres, nothing in normal folder) have nice rusty bits and stuff, but these dont seem to be the same as the ones on my sub (currently IIA) when playing?
Can someone please give me some pointers as to how the game maps its textures, where the base textures are etc?
I would be eternally grateful

Textures are packed in the dat files for the most part in GWX.

Use S3D to export/import them.

If you don't want to change the dat, placeing the modded textures in the Textures/TNormal/tex folder will over ride the texture in the dat.
