Default A labor of love...

So I originally bought SH5, but kept hearing about how good SH3 with the GWX mod. Now I am a rookie to PC gaming, I had NO clue wtf a mod even was. But I have the week off and could not wait for the copy of SH5 to get here so I hopped on steam and DL'd it. I played it as a normal v1.4 at first through my training, tried a couple of missions out and it was fun. So I decided to go all in and do research on installing the GWX stuff. The first mission I ran was the Bismarck.... Dear God. It was litterally breathtaking to run my scope up and see the KG V and Rodney slugging it out with the KM Bismarck. Then to line up the Nelson and slam 4 fish into her and watch he slowly slip benieth the waves... That was co enough. But then when that Tribal Class stuck around, turn towards me and started hunting me after I crash dove to 50 then rigged silent running... Diving all the way to 155 feet (deep into the yellow) hearing those depth charges detonate all over having no idea wether or not she was close to me.....

Crazy intense. The GWX additions were amazing and noticeable right away. Amazing to think it was free.

I stared messing with the career mode and have not really stuck with anything as I learn more about that mode every time I start one. But when I get back from my trip I will be running one for sure.

Anyways, thanks for the great resources on this site and to the GWX guys... WOW.

Yeah, I don't see me installing SH5 for a long time. Anyone doing a all inclusive Mod for that one?

Not that I know of.....I think they have to understand more of SH5's code before that will happen, at least that is the impression I have from reading a number of threads in that forum.

Ok... So do I have a bad sonar guy? Granted, right now I am basically doing things that I have seen in Sub movies as the basis of my tactics lol. But the other day I was on patrol and got a contact report of a ship , I plotted an intercept course went ahead full to get their early and when I got a few miles out I slipped benieth the waves and had my Sonar guy listen for screws. It was daylight so I wanted to mimimize my scope usage. With no sonar updates I decided to pop up and take a look...

15 points off the port bow about a boat length away a cargo ship was steaming directly for me! No sonar contact from the crew. I crash dove to avoid getting rammed. The questions this raises are...

Does my sonar guy suck?

Do ships actively try and ram you? Cause it seemed he started stearing right at me.

The game AI will not purposely try to ram you...the chances are the vessel was unaware of your close proximity.

Welcome Aboard

So it was either...
A) Amazing nav skills.
B) A little skill.. A lot of luck, a tired sonar guy or the ship was in a blind spot do to the angle I approached.

Your hydrophone is blind from about 160 to 200. Also directly in front of you unless you have upgraded to the KDB one.

could have been the sonar man was fatigued.

get "Silent Hunter III Commander"

lots of career options there, you can even turn off that pesky fatigue, im never too tired to go about the business of saving my life LOL for some reason SH3 crewman can get a little lazy

I kinda like the fact that the guys get tired though, I was thinking about running the guys in shifts. Does SH 3 install over GWX?

Afraid not...you'll need to reinstall a fresh game.
