Silent Hunter 3 crashes

Hay there!

I have been playing this game for a while with GWX. I am currently on my 8th patrol in the campaign and was forced to dive and hide from a couple of destroyers depth-charging me. My VIIB kept going deeper at a slow and steady rate for no apparent reason while running silent, which forced me to speed up to prevent crunching das boot.

I was of course detected because of that and died.

I then tried to load to a save a couple of minutes before dying, but the game crashes after the "Not so long ago..."-message. I just get a small glimpse at the interior of the sub before it all freezes and tosses me out to the desktop.

Halp me!

Tried loading earlier saves, but nothing happens. All my saves are underwater, and I have not encountered this problem before. This is on 32-bit W7.

Are there any ways to keep my saves and reinstall?

Saving the game while submerged you run the risk of SH3 crashing from corrupt save files.

Try to find a save before you went under and try it there.
