I've heard from several people that ships are drawn in game when they get to within 30 km from you? What about sounds? Historically hydrophones could pick up convoys from at least 50 km.......single merchants out to about 38 kms. Is this modeled? I have yet to test this out.

Yes, with REM you can hear contacts from very far, and it's very clear.
The deaper you are, the best the contact is.
