Settlers...anybody?

I have played the SETTLERS series since it first came out in 1993.

Is there anybody here who plays SETTLERS 6 or SETTLERS 7?

Nope, 2,3 and 4. The rest I have played, but I didn't like the way they went with the economy model. Also, they made the settlers to look too 'human' for my taste. Not like the cute little fellas upto and including S4.

No, but I might look into it. I like those type of games (CIV and Annos)

It is not one of those games that requires a steam account is it?

I loved 3, but wasn't so keen on 4, haven't played any since then.

No - but Settlers 7 has DRM.

I liked the fact that the settlers became more human - especially in
SETTLERS 6.
The economy model in S6 is IMHO quite straightforward and not
overly complicated. Some people on the net complained that S6
was a 'dumbed down' version compared to S5 and other 4X games...

As to S7: Excellent graphics but the economy model is insane -
and this time the military branch is dumbed down...

Haven't played it's successor, the web browser game - and I don't
think I ever will.

Settlers 2 is one of my favourite games of all time.

In fact, up until SH3 came out, it was probably my most-played game of all time

In what form is the DRM implemented?

During gameplay you must have a constant internet connection i.e.
a connction to Ubisoft's server.

Problem was and still is that the server crashes or is extremely
slow - which of course affects gameplay.

Ubisoft removed the always-on-DRM through an Uplay update some weeks ago.
Finally I can think about buying at, after 3 years...

I loved Settlers 1-4, their successors were a little too shallow for my taste.

Did they? I haven't noticed - except for the fact that the game doesn't
seem to freeze anymore. You really should try S7 - yes, yes - the missions
are sometimes borderline stupid - but to get the economy stable and
make enough money for your greedy soldiers isn't easy.

IMO S6 is the best game in the series. The knights have different
talents and personality and you have quite good control over
your army.

I had hoped that Ubisoft/BlueByte would continue in this
direction with S7 - but they didn't...

The graphics are top notch but the economy model is
barmy. In places too detailed - in other places dumb.

The AI is dumb too.

Oh well - it's a good thing that we have SH and other subsims
where men are still men and one has bigger fish to fry...

Gute Jagd und fette Beute!
