Default Skyfall: worth your money and your time

Just went to saw Skyfall last night, and my verdict, its worth your money and your time.

Historically, James Bond never really had a "genre", from fighting ninjas in japan, to fighting astronauts in space, James Bond has dabbled in every genre. From blacksploitation to science fiction to martial arts, usually what happens is that it takes elements from popular movies, than adds James Bond to it. Even though James Bond movies have varied so much in theme and plot, there has always been a staple of "common elements" that makes the movie a James Bond movie.

I have to say that I did not like Craig's first two films. It feels like the movies tried to emulate Jason Bourn too much. The movies were dark and gritty, but the removal of too many common elements of James Bond just does not feel right. However, in skyfall, the movie felt like a James Bond movie again. Many reoccurring characters were introduced (albeit in new forms), and the classic James Bond humor in back.

The chase scenes are suspenseful, but thankfully without too much of that shaky camera crap. the humor is good, with laugh out loud one liners. the plot is tight and coherent. and finally, the action is solid, extremely solid.

SO what are you waiting for? If you haven't seen it, go see it now! If you are a bond fan, this film would feel like fan service, if you are not a bond fan, this movie will make you one.

PS: Skyfall kind of confirms one of the fan theories, that everyone in the James Bond universe is simply a code name. James Bond 007 is simply a position, a rank, with spies continually taking over.

No, it doesn't. In fact, it pretty much completely denies it. The bad guy's name is a code name, as well as M and Q, obviously. But seeing as it actually shows James Bond's family estate and even the names of his parents, I don't see how his name can possibly be a code name...

That's too bad. Casino Royale was the first movie in a very long time that actually had something to do with Ian Fleming's original novel. Bond's world in the books is dark and gritty, and I considered most of the movies to be perversions of what Bond was meant to be. The "classic" humor was the worst of it.

Oh. My. God.

Thanks for the warning. I guess I'll be waiting until I can see it for free.

I have been disappointed too many times with "modern" James Bond Movies. Quantum really disappointed me.

Might watch the latest one on DvD.

Glad other people liked it though and that's what's important.

Did you feel you got your money's worth.

Quantum was as bad as Casino Royal was good. Try Casino. In several regards the best Bond movie so far, imo (excluding Skyfall, have not seen it). Casino combines very small, well-measured doses of dry humour with the dark, grim nature of the original Bond figure from the books (the few I once had read, long time ago).

I probably wait for the DVD release. I do not like the modern cineplex cinemas, and they always pump up the volume beyond ear pain level. When sound is so loud that it makes my ears ringing and even sometimes feels like a hot needle plugged into my ear, than I lose interest in even needing to pay money for that. It must be perverts handling the volume sliders.

I thought that Casino was "meh". Clearly not the worst Bond film.

I still think that Daniel Craig is the most authentic actor to play Bond. In the original books, Bond was a bit of a thug, not the pretty boy often portrayed. Craig has that "barely undercontrol" look about him that I think Flemming had in mind.

I would really really like to see Craig portray Bond in accurate remakes of the original book.

A fan can only dream.

Never read Ians books so I cant compare.

But I prefer Craigs Bond just for the reason I've heard on this thread, the movies are more grimm and dark.

And loved Skyfall. Kept me in suspence till the end and didn't feel too short.

No, the humor is in the right places. The 1 liners are not delivered in the middle of action, it's more when Bond is talking to another person, more like casual conversation with a little humor.

I just got back home from watching it today. Skyfall is easily the best Bond film to come out in many years I think it edges out Casino Royale as being the best recent film.

I thought the humor was fitting and it was not the laugh out loud type it was more the type that makes you smile. That being said there was some moron laughing at the one liners of course they also found the one liner from the "Die Hard" trailer "I am the James Bond of New Jersey" to be quite knee slapingly humorous.

All I can say is that maybe I know my geography a little too well I was able to tell what nation the beginning scenes where in as soon as they showed the streets of course if you spend a few months someplace you get to know it.
