Default How to diagnose and repair CTD problems

As the title says, I am suffering random CTD's and I am having trouble finding a solution, is there anyway to diagnose and repair these problems?
My game crashes every 10-20 minutes.
And It really impairs how much fun I can get from the game.
It also randomly freezes up in combat.
And for some reason my sights out off center.

When adding mods - first test stock SH5 v1.2
If all ok - add one mod at a time and test.
beware of mods that overwrite other mods (here that file that is overwriten may be needed in its old form by the first mod)
Any mod that changes your boat by adding or removing equip (items) must be installed in the bunker.
Any that change you career (camapign and crew mods) need a restart.

If you get ctds:-
have you just added a mod
have you edited your options
did a sound play (or try too)
did you just meet a convoy (or ship/aeroplane)
are you close to port (kiel) within 30km
did you just meet a convoy with TC set to superfast (over512)

....

CTDs are from the computer system not coping .
Not enough memory IE: not 64 bit system with 8 gigs of ram or slow graphics card .
Too high Time Compression and CPU not powerful enough (less than 3 gig).
Mods incompatible with each other .
Mods not set up properly as intended such as the menu text etc .
Mods causing the CTDs .
SH5 is a very intensive game and needs the latest equipment to play with lots of mods on high settings .

As a comparison. My CPU is a Intel i5 2.81GH quadcore with 3.75GB of usable DDR3 RAM, with 32 bit XP OS. GFX card is an 8800GT with 1GB of DDR3 RAM. If I try TC at or over 1024 for any amount of time my system will CTD.

Use Sober's mega mod list and pick the mods you want to use. But make sure you install them in the order he hads them listed. Some will overwrite others but that will happen and it won't hurt. You don not have to use all of them if you don't want too. But if you want to go back and use some you changed your mind on, then you have to reinstall all mods in their correct order, and most likely start a new campaign again. Worst case is a fresh reinstall of SH5.

BTW.. the more you do the reinstall of SH5 and reinstall of mods the better, and more savy on them, you will become. I'm ruuning with my 14th reinstall of SH5 and mods, and now I have a reasonably stable SH5. A couple of hic cups now and then, but reloading the previous Save solves the problem, unlike before.

I am running an AMD Phenom II x6 clocked at 3.4 Ghz, a Nvidia Gtx 570 1.25 Gb and 32 Gb of ram, and a Solid state hard disk.

Not at all, I chose this over Intel, because the AMD architecture has a better design than the Intel architecture. and I am planning to buy the AMD FX 8350 8 core.
Please don't turn this thread into a fanboi Pro Intel thread please.
I DO have enough money to buy parts, for your information.
And I have had this rig since 2010.

Just joking mate , your system is way better than my one . So lets rule that out regarding the CTDs .

So the next thing is what mods are you running . Give me a look at the Dbgview file . Its found in
NewUIs_TDC_7_1_0_ByTheDarkWraith\data\Applications \Dbgview
Place it on your desktop then run it before starting SH5 . After playing click on File/Save as .

The problem is mods incompatable with each other . Check out Trevallys list or my list .

Well I removed two wave mods, and this problem is no longer recurring.
Thanks for the input.

I would suggest using Sobers modlist like he says. I dont use Real Navigation though, but Ive had it and played quite a bit with it and havent had a problem yet

Other than that, maybe something weird is up with your computer? Maybe a bunch of backround programs consuming memory or its 32 bit? or something stupid and easy to overlook like that?

No computer genius by any means, just offering ideas. Good luck!
