Graphically and actionally beautiful, but I'd be surprised if a MiG-29, Su-27 or Su-30 could sneak up on an F-18 and get THAT close to both the F-18 and the CVBG without having a SAM or AAM poked into it. Jamming is one thing but burn-through should have occurred long before then, although admittedly Radar in that kind of weather would be pretty scrambled, but a Hawkeye should be operating as AWACs overhead to co-ordinate.
Still, BVR engagements don't make for a good action scene.

EDIT - Also suffers from 'Ace Combat' syndrome with the AAMs, the F-18 has 9 hardpoints and can carry 6 AAMs.

That's why we have Simulation games.

I always liked Jetfighter V....I can't get it to install on Windows 7 though. It only had 3 planes but I really liked flying the F-16 in that game. The F-22 and F-35 are no fun to fly.

I liked Flanker 2.5 too...

Battlefield 3 just provides a graphically awesome flying mission...It isn't perfect but it's better than HAWX. HAWX is just Ace Combat with Clancy's name slapped on the side.

As and Audiophile, that mission is something akin to earporn for me.

There is something quite satisfying about the growl of a Sidewinder I must admit, no matter what game or sim it's in. The noises that the RWR make can be quite amusing too, right up until it's followed by that rapid beep-beep-beep-beep which indicates that whatever you were tracking has just lobbed one off at you.

I love the sounds of modern air combat...

Played that mission one of the best in the campaign.
