Default Any Guess As To Why?

I have just started playing with the manual TDC.
I have it figured out, more or less, have sank a
fair number of ships. But then right when I think
I have this down cold my torps miss, passing behind
the ship. Maybe a matter of the input speed being
incorrect, but I am pretty careful of watching that.
Is there anything else I might be overlooking that you
can think of?

Thanks much...

Did you open the torpedo tube doors first?

Yes the doors were opened. I generally do that just before coming into range.
1,000 years or so.
I thinking maybe it has to do with taking a last range reading.

Make sure you input your data in this order; Turn on PK first, Speed, AoB and last range/bearing. It will make a difference. The later you do your last range/bearing the better.

Develop a system of attack. What I do is as soon as I make contact and decide what type of attack I'll use I "open the doors" and set torpedoes to the speed I'll be using and set detonators to contact. I set torpedo depth to 15 feet on all tubes and adjust this later if needed. 15 feet will sink most all ships you may encounter except DD or smaller. Till mid 43 the torpedoes ran about 10 feet too deep so adjust for that in the early war.

If you are consistently shooting behind than as TorpX said be sure to open the doors first. Most common mistake made by new manual targeting players.

Good luck and good hunting.
Magic

Edit I see I'm a little late, slow typing.
If you're missing astern from 1,000 yards or less speed is most likely the culprit although range will do it but that would have to be pretty far off to miss from that range, missing astern would suggest that your range would be too short. Might try taking that last range reading a little earlier and give yourself some time to check the attack map to verify your firing solution. If it's good than the PK will update as needed. If you have a very good solution on the attack map I wouldn't mess with it and let the PK do it's job.
Be sure the gyro angle offset dial is at 0.

Your from Milwaukee eh, well a few less brewskies might also help.

magic452,
Thanks for the advice. I was setting the speed and AoB then turning the PK
on. I will turn on first from now on and see how that goes. I am using the
Easy AoB mod and can't seem to make it work like others talk about as far
as setting the AoB directly on the dial in the upper left. Is the Easy AoB mod
a good thing or is it better to go with what's in TMO2.5?

Thanks again to all.

I think magic hit it well, but always enter range last. If you set set range first, then enter speed, you plotting will be off some. Easy AOB allows you to free spin the left wheel, making it easier to set your AOB, but you can click it as well. Remember the perfect AOB is the targets course relative to your sub. If you get good stad measurements and ask for speed, you will get course as well, just spin the AOB to the exact course of the target. You can also use your map tools, mark two points and use the compass to figure course.

Depending on the year you are playing the torpedoes my not be the best. Under running and premature detonation.

Missing completely ahead or behind is usually a speed error in your calculations. The closer your are to the target, less error can occur. Small error usually will not make a difference.

Thanks guys,
I will fool around and hopefully find out what I doing, or not doing.
I have the procedure down so it must be something else. Speed
input maybe.
Question: Does TMO2.5 have the Easy AoB mod built into it?

Thanks.

I do not believe Easy AOB is in TMO.

That would be correct, but it works fine with TMO. The mod does have two parts, you have to activate both.

could be as simple as the ship detects your presence and alters course causing the AOB and hit point to change, sometimes ships change course even if they dont see you so the closer you are the less likely a course change will cause you to miss

What do you mean by that?
I followed the instructions, hope I did it right.
That might be part of the problem.

P.S. I sent you a message, please let me know.

Thanks tons...

I'm out of town, so not at my PC with all my SH4 stuff, I'll be glad to email you the two parts in one mod format when I get home Sat.
