Manual targeting question.

Question.

I am using OLC's GUI 1.2.7 for manual targeting and I think it's great. My question is, what did real life U boat captains use to plot an attack? Was it just like this, similar to this and other GUI's or something completely different?

Thanks for your time.

Hitman Beta Gui mod has a couple of PDF files that explain U-boat attack procedures, plotting and optics. I don't know where he got the information from or how accurate it is.

Here is the link to the mod with the PDF's:

Thanks for the reply sublynx. I downloaded Hitman Beta Gui. I gave it a try and it's pretty cool, but as I said in my first post, I really like OLC's GUI 1.2.7. I'm very comfortable with it and have gotten the hang of manual targeting with it.

The PDF on periscope optics was an interesting read.

I would like to rephrase my original question to ask this. Is the drop down wiz wheel on the attack periscope in OLC's GUI 1.2.7 something that was really used?

Thanks again.

Great find Pisces!

The drop down whizz wheel is basically a slide rule and slide rule collector's pages have Kriegsmarine slide rules.

(for example here: http://www.mathsinstruments.me.uk/page18.html)

I think it can be assumed that slide rules were used to help calculating in all U-boats, either attached to the periscope as in the picture Pisces found, or separately.
