Default Full moon looks large tonight...

I swear that's the largest I recall seeing a full moon this time of year, course it's on the horizon now here. Strange, I don't know if it's my eyes but it seems to have a blue edge glow..Strange, this is supposed to be the smallest full moon of the year. You can also see Jupiter very well.

Anyway, it's pretty, so take a look.

There are two possible explanations.

Either it is the well-described moon illusion, that means your brain interprets a moon close to the horizon as bigger in size because the visual impression gets scaled diffrently inside the brain against objects of known size you happen to see close to the horizon line. High in the sky, the lack of known objects in the visual field means the moon gets scaled slightly smaller in your brain.

Or it is the moon in a closer position to Earth indeed, because it is moving along an elliptical orbit around Earth and thus sometimes is closer and sometimes is more distant. The distance varies between 363 and 405 thousand kilometers.

Quite spectacular here as well. The Moon's high up and as there's a thin cloud
layer, the moon has a huuuuuuge halo around it. Very nice.

It had a nice corona when it was lower, but losing it now. You can see Jupiter with it's moons fairly clear. Course other planets are coming out as well for the coming line up of whatever number will line up with the milky way.

My biggest fear is Dec. 21, will that be the beginning of the end? My wife's birthday Dec 23, so I can't decide to buy her a gift or not, then xmas... Should I be stocking up food and ammo instead....

I really need Steve to answer this as he seems to have a knack for knowing it all.

Stellarium gives the distance for tonight with 400 thousand km, so it is pretty close to the maximum distance Moon can reach from Earth.

Will you guys please stop to spoil scientific precision with your irrational emotional outbursts and romantic sentiments?

What do you think, is the world coming to an end or not? Be honest, when Dec. 21 rolls around you'll be a tad stressed. Really, how cool would it be to be here when it all comes to an end, not something you get to see that often.

Think I'll least buy a extra box of bottled water unless Steve says different.

I can say with honesty that I am not concerned at all.

If the world comes to an end on Dec 21st, will it matter how much food or ammo a person has!?!

Depends if it's the ending or the beginning of the ending, either way I plan to go out with a full belly with my gun in my hand....I don't want to chance it may be aliens that beam us all up to do anal probes, least want to cap a few before they explore my innards....I'm telling ya, the last anal probe I had from my Doctor wasn't fun. I'm really getting concerned about this as the date approaches.

Anyway, I'll await what Steve thinks before I wrap myself in tinfoil. I did find Steve posting in another forum with a picture of him preparing for the end.
