Hi

I am looking to have a go at the We dive at dawn mod (it is the main reason I got the game to play a british campaign), though since I am a first time player it is best to try and play the game vanilla first or try a different mod to get the feel of playing the game.
Thanks in advance

Welcome aboard!

I would go ahead and play some mods of your choice. Many here played stock only briefly and bailed out on it. The mods make for a much better game. Why torture yourself?

Welcome yorkiesand23.
The WDAD mod is only 1/3 complete. At the moment if you download and install with JGSME, you will only be able to play as a T class sub based at Trincomalee on the island of Ceylon from 1/1/44 onwards. Sidslotm is working on activating the other two cenarios contained in Lurkers original mod. These will hopefully be available in the near future as campaigns in the North sea area and more importantly from Malta in the Med 1940-43. I have made 2 minor mods for this campaign which can be found at the end of the WDAD thread. Sidslotm has also sent me a beta of part 2 which I am currently looking at. G5.

Default Thanks for the update

That is great looking foward to when they are available, I have downloaded you mods aswell and It all looks terribly good old bean. Looking forward to the malta and the North Sea.

If the campaign wants to track history a good book to read even though it does concentrate on strategy and surface warfare is Correlli Barnett 'Engage the enemy more closely' which I am re-reading and I am also reading Samuel Eilot Morison 'History of United States Naval Operations in World War II'.

Any other thoughts on British Submarine books while I am waiting.

Cheers

Thanks,

Just trying my first campaign in the med, sunk one merchant. About to sink my second italian merchant. I am using my cannon, it does seem to br taking quite a few shots. How many realistically should it take?

Realistically, it should take quite a few shells to sink most merchant ships. If shells were all that effective against large ships, the whole issue of torpedo malfunctions would not have assumed the importance it did. That said, you can still sink fairly large ships if you can get multiple hits along the waterline and are patient.

What caliber gun do you have?

What kind of target are you trying to sink?

Personally, I think trying to sink anything larger than 5,000 tons with your deck gun is bordering on absurd, unless you have at least a 5 inch (or larger) gun.
